Havdole for the End of the World

Havdole for the End of the World

With music and dance, spices and fire, an all ages community parades through the backstreets of Toronto with a monumental spice box on wheels, designed as a roving ritual for the year 2221. They make the blessings to conclude Shabbat and collect memories to transmit to our children's children's children living in a radically transformed, climate ravaged distant future where society as we know it has collapsed - a world where havdole / havdalah may never come again.

Director: Evelyn Tauben

Produced in 2021 by FENTSTER together with KlezKanada

Inspired by & featuring Daniel Toretsky's "Tower for the Sacred & Ordinary" fentster.org/tower

RAISE THE ROOF

RAISE THE ROOF

Raise the Roof (2015) a documentary film by Cary and Yari Wolinsky that has been shown around the world. What an honour it's been to be a part of the film and the telling of the unlikely story of artists Rick and Laura Brown who inspired an international team to reconstruct one of the magnificent wooden synagogues of Poland, the last of which were destroyed during World War II. The recreated roof structure and elaborate ceiling murals are now the centrepiece of the Polin Museum in Warsaw. Premiering on PBS, November 2017.
